Cape Town City came into being after the completion of the 2015/16 PSL season when businessman John Comitis bought the Mpumalanga Black Aces franchise, moved the club to the Mother City and renamed it. As a brand new club, CTC has no heritage or history to speak of, though they have retained several players who were on the books of Black Aces and brought in plenty of new talent, including foreigners Renars Rode, James Brown, Roland Putsche and Matt Sim. They will be coached by Eric Tinkler, whose tenure at Orlando Pirates came to an end upon the completion of the 2015/16 campaign. The former Bafana Bafana midfielder came close to winning a couple of major trophies at Bucs (losing out in both the CAF Confederation Cup and Nedbank Cup finals) but he ultimately paid the price for failing to take the Soweto giants back to the top of the South African game. At Cape Town City, his first and primary objective will be to consolidate their place in the top flight.
