Formerly WNDC and then IICC Shooting Stars, 3SC are one of the traditional clubs in Nigeria.
Along with arch-rivals Enugu Rangers, ‘The Oluyole Warriors’ dominated in the 70s and early 80s.
The club, who are based in Ibadan an hour’s drive from Nigeria’s commercial capital of Lagos, made history as the first Nigerian club to win a major international diadem when they won the Africa Cup Winners Cup in 1976.
They also annexed the CAF Cup in 1992.
On the domestic scene, they have landed the league title five times with their last triumph in 1998. They also won the FA Cup four times.
They were relegated to the lower league in 2006, but regained top flight status three years later.
Shooting Stars have since struggled to establish themselves as one of the top clubs in the country, but they still remain one of Nigeria’s most popular clubs.
Former Nigeria assistant coach, Fatai Amoo, helped them to escape relegation last season and this season they are again struggling to stay put in the elite division.
The pressure is therefore on general manager and former star Mutiu Adepoju to wave the magic wand to ensure 3SC regain lost glory sooner rather than later.
Some of Nigeria’s household names like Segun ‘Mathematical’ Odegbami, Muda Lawal, Best Ogedegbe and Rashidi Yekini first made their names at this club.
The present day stars are striker Kabiru Alausa, Tope Orelope, Raheem Owolabi and Sylvanus Ebiaku.
