Dlamini: We can't afford Ndumiso Mabena

Platinum Stars assistant coach Milton Dlamini has revealed why the club failed to retain star striker Ndumiso Mabena.

Dikwena announced that the former Orlando Pirates forward was released as his contract was not renewed at the end of last month.

Although he played a pivotal role in the past three seasons for the club in their Premier Soccer League and in the CAF Confederation Cup campaign, Mabena has since left the club.

Furthermore, the Globersdal-born player has been linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs, but nothing has developed thus far.

Dikwena failed to retain the 2017/18 Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup last weekend as they lost 1-0 to Free State Stars in the semi-final on Saturday at James Motlatsi Stadium in Orkney.

“We are losing key players at an alarming rate. Mabena is a good player, we rate him very highly. But we can’t afford him as things stand,” said Dlamini on Saturday.

“If he wants he can still come back with a reasonable offer, the team still wants him. Hopefully we can agree on the personal terms with him.”

Ea Lla Koto marched on to the final in their maiden appearance, but they lost 1-0 in the final to eventual champions Kaizer Chiefs.
