Maritzburg appoint De Sa

Following media reports that former Ajax Cape Town coach Roger De Sa is heading to Maritzburg United, the club has since announce the appointment.

The Harry Gwala-based side held a press briefing on Tuesday to unveil their new coach following the resignation of Ernst Middendorp towards the end of 2016.

After Middendorp's departure, the Team of Choice handed the reins to brothers, Maahier and Fadlu Davids on a caretaker basis.

Speaking to the media, chairman Farook Kadodia said there was no rush to appoint a new coach whilst he also thanked Davids' contribution.

“There was no rush is appointing a new Head Coach until we had found the right appointment for the Football Club," said Kadodia.

Roger and I go back 10 years in football business. We have a coach who we believe has great quality.

"Credit to Fadlu Davids and the rest of the technical team on doing a wonderful job after Middendorp's departure."

On the other hand, the former Orlando Pirates mentor added that the support in Maritzburg is massive and he will compete with his squad.

“The support here in Pietermaritzburg is second to none, the squad is good and the vibe I get here is very positive,” 'RDS' said.

“Exciting times for me. The target is to first get to 30 points but we want more than that. We want to compete.

"The club has a good squad. It also has the best fan base in the country. They get behind this team in a big way.”

The Team of Choice currently sits at number eight with 19 points from 15 games thus far and will kick off their 2017 Absa Premiership programme against Polokwane City at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on February 8.
