Ex-Chiefs defender released at Chippa

According to local media reports, Chippa United have released defender Simphiwe Mtsweni after six months into his contract.

Mtsweni was released by Amakhosi at the end of the 2015/16 Premier Soccer League season and was signed by the Chilli Boys for the 2016/17 campaign.

However, just after six months in Port Elizabeth, the 22-year-old parted ways with Dan Malesela's side.

“Mtsweni is now free after being handed his clearance,” Peter Koutroulis, the Chippa CEO, tells KickOff.com.

“He struggled to break into the team and the coach decided that it would be in his best interest that he moves.

“The boy is still young and has a great future ahead of him because he has a good attitude and is professional in his approach to the game all the time. It just didn’t work well for him at Chippa.”

Although it is reported that he has attracted the interest of one National First Division club, his future remains unknown.
