Roger de Sa denies Bafana Bafana links

Although his name has been mentioned as one of the coaches gunning for the Bafana Bafana coaching job, Roger De Sa has denied the reports.

'RDS' spoke to Goal.com and said that he is delighted to hear that his name has been mentioned, but the reports are untrue.

De Sa parted ways with Ajax Cape Town in October and has been without a club since, fueling speculation that he is earmarked to lead Bafana.

On the other hand, the former Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper has been touted as the next Maritzburg United coach after Ernst Middendorp's departure.

The move by the South African Football Association to hunt for a coach comes after Shakes Mashaba was initially suspended.

Consequently, he was fired after a lengthy disciplinary hearing and the coaching seat is vacant with the media reporting that RDS is one of the favourites.

“It is obviously nice to hear that I am being considered for a Bafana Bafana job or that Safa are keen on my services, but I’ve just been reading about it like anyone else,” he tells Goal.com.

“There has not been any official approach (from SAFA).

“The other day I even read somewhere that I’d said I was keen on the Bafana job but I’d not spoken to anyone about it. I suppose they know that every coach would like to coach the national team.

“They are (Maritzburg) serious and have been very aggressive, and they’ve gone about it via the right channels.

“I’ve had meetings with Farook (Kadodia) and we’ve had discussions. I’ve made him aware that I needed the break and asked him to give me some space and that we should talk again in January.”
