Tinkler not replacing Sim and Rode

Just after releasing two of his players, Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler says he will not replace the duo.

The Telkom Knockout Cup champions parted ways with Australian midfielder Matthew Sim and Latvian defender Renars Rode on Friday.

However, the former Orlando Pirates manager says he has enough depth in their respective positions.

Although Tinkler believes they started well in the 2016/17 Premier Soccer League campaign, the duo failed to command regular spots in the team.

“They both started well for us and played very well," Tinkler tells KickOff.com.

"They were doing very well, but Sim found it difficult to get in the starting line-up. When the team is performing well, the guys who are on the bench must work very hard.

“But he did come on in some games we played. When a player asks to be released, you must grant him his wish.

"No. We have enough cover."

Tinkler's men defied all odds as they went onto win their first major trophy, beating SuperSport United in the TKO in November.

Meanwhile, on the Absa Premiership log table, they occupy the third spot with 25 points from 15 matches in the first round.
