Hlompho Kekana proud of his troops despite Japan disappointment

Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana remains proud of his troops, despite the African champions suffering a premature end to their stay at the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup.

The Brazilians had high hopes of achieving considerable success in Japan, but a 2-0 defeat to Japanese league holders Kashima Antlers brought an end to their dreams at the quarterfinal stage.

Next up for Pitso Moismane's men is a clash against Jeonduk Hyundai Motors on Wednesday with the winner to secure a fifth-place finish.

“We must be proud of our job,” Kekana said. “We played very well. We created more chances in the first half – had we taken one of those chances we created, it would have been a different game and we could have been happier at the end of the day.

“But I’m very proud of the boys, they tried, and it’s an experience for us as South Africans, and I think we can take lessons from this game," he concluded.
