'Naze Millionnaires' Heartland relegated for first time in history
Heartland have been relegated for the first time in their history after a ruling by the League Management Company (LMC) Thursday.
‘The Naze Millionaires’ were sanctioned three points and three goals after they abandoned their final day match at Plateau United after 75 minutes when they disputed a call by the referee.
They will also pay a fine of three million Naira.
By this decision, MFM FC will stay up.
Heartland have the option to appeal this decisions within the next 48 hours.
“In the case against Heartland, the LMC charged the club for breach of B13.26 in that they failed to continue with a match. Heartland were fined N3,000,000 and a forfeiture of the three points and three goals which were awarded to Plateau United,” stated a statement from the LMC.
Plateau were also fined a million Naira for crowd trouble, which caused the delay of the second half.
Heartland thus finished 18th on the table with 44 points.
They go down with expelled Giwa FC, Ikorodu United and 17th-placed Warri Wolves.
